A new weekly feature has arrived at “La Bella Vita Cucina”!
Besides sharing yummy recipes, thoughts about life on a country acreage and in my gardens, and along with sharing wonderful travel and culinary experiences, I’ve got a few ‘other thoughts’ to contemplate (i.e.: the definition of ‘musing’) to share with you . . . and that I invite you to join in the conversation . . . whether you agree or not with my thoughts or not! Being a big girl, I love a darn good debate!
So welcome to Monday Morning Musings!
How was this inspired, you ask?
Well, way back (and long ago) when I was in college and in a (very lively) sorority, a few creative and fun-loving sisters had a ritual every Monday morning during which we met on the sorority building’s fire escape while sitting on an old bed mattress with Bloody Mary’s in hand — so we appropriately named this ritual: “Monday Morning Bloody Mary Mattress Club“! Now keep in mind that this took place in the freezing cold Iowa winters, so we really needed something to warm up the innards in order to sit out on that darn mattress! So obviously Bloody Marys became part of the plan, but the concoctions also acted as a truth serum to ‘speak our minds’ . . . well really just to have a few laughs to start the week off in great spirits (at least those of us who didn’t have Monday morning classes)!
So find a comfy place to plop down, sit a spell, and grab that Bloody Mary (virgin or spiked), cup of coffee, espresso, latte or tea . . . and let’s just CHAT!
The holidays are over . . . and I’m in the mood to cleanse . . . anything and everything! We’ve already packed up the station wagon (er, I mean the SUV) and headed to the Salvation Army and Goodwill before December 31st — gotta get that tax write off, remember! And rid ourselves of stuff that we no longer need and that someone else in need might need or want! What about you?
I’m feeling utterly and completely grateful that we gave money gifts to all of our adult children so they can purchase what they need or want and not what WE THINK they need or want! And not putting them in a position to either re-gift or return the ‘thing-a-ma-jig’.
I feel as if I finally fit in the culinary world with a brand smackin’ new Vitamix from Santa. . . with hopes that you will send me your best recipes to use this thing! This monster of a machine is intimidating to say the least!
I’ve decided against making any useless New Year’s resolutions this year, just gonna try to live more healthy and to be a better person in any way that I can.
I’m totally jazzed to see gas prices drop to $1.89 in my neck of the woods right now . . . please Lord, let this last!
The spring seed catalogues have been arriving in the mailbox! YAY! So I’m starting to plan and order my spring garden seeds and plants! Oh Happy Days! Oh Happy Days! (Does anyone else remember that song, or am I that old?)
I’m just giddy that the days are getting longer again; I felt like a hibernating bear there for awhile with those longer, dark nights! Plus I ate like one too!
Can someone tell me if it’s natural to get sassy as we get older, you know, like Maxine in the cartoons? Someone help me with this new attitude! I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing!
I’ve always loved the infamous line stated by the fiesty Scarlett O’Hara: “I just can’t think about that right now . . . I’ll think about that tomorrow!” — and think those words are just perfect for New Year’s Eve this week!
What’s on your mind today?
Let me know and I WILL share it with everyone next week to see what others think about your thoughts . . . this is totally about the wonderful community of friends that return here and not just about me!
Hugs and laughs,
